We shop 17+ Canadian insurers for general liability, tools, and builders' risk, and deliver same-day Certificates of Insurance so your start date is never delayed.

Built for the trades that build everything else.

Contractor Insurance — at a glance

Builders, renovators, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC contractors need coverage that understands job sites, tools, and the contracts that demand proof of insurance before you start work. We arrange contractor insurance with same-day Certificates of Insurance for the trades we serve.

What Contractor Insurance protects.

Standard Ontario contractor insurance policies include most of the coverages below by default. We add the endorsements and limits specific to your property, vehicle, or operation, and re-shop the policy at every renewal so your premium tracks the market, not the insurer's loyalty habit.

Commercial general liability

Job-site injury and property damage, the contract staple.

Tools & equipment

Coverage for your tools on and off the job site.

Installation floater

Materials in transit and on-site before they're installed.

Commercial auto

Work trucks and trailers rated for genuine trade use.

Builders' risk

Projects under construction, per-project or blanket.

Errors & omissions

For design-build and professional-design trades.

Who Contractor Insurance is for

Built for the drivers, owners, and operators who pick us.

General contractors

Residential renovations and new builds across the region.

Skilled trades

Electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and welders.

Home renovators

Bathroom, kitchen, and basement specialists in K-W.

Locally based in Kitchener

Contractor Insurance, arranged by a local Kitchener-Waterloo broker.

Waterloo Region's housing stock and growth make it a busy market for trades. As a Kitchener brokerage, we work with contractors every day, we know the builder's risk insurers active here, we produce Certificates of Insurance the same day a general contractor asks, and we size liability limits to the contracts our trades actually sign.

Contractor Insurance FAQ

Contractor Insurance questions, answered.

How much general liability do contractors need?+

Most projects and general contractors require $2M CGL; some ask for $5M. We'll match your limits to the contracts you actually bid on so you're never under-insured or overpaying.

Are my tools covered off-site?+

With the right tools and equipment endorsement, yes, including at a storage unit and in transit. We build coverage that follows your tools wherever the job is.

Can I get a Certificate of Insurance the same day?+

Yes. We deliver same-day COIs to the party requesting proof, often the general contractor or property owner, so your start date isn't delayed waiting on paperwork.

What is builders' risk and when do I need it?+

Builders' risk covers a project under construction — materials, labour, and the structure — against fire, theft, and weather damage before it's finished. We arrange it per-project or on a blanket basis for contractors running multiple jobs.

Does my general liability cover damage to the work I'm building?+

Often not. CGL typically excludes damage to your own work, and faulty workmanship itself needs a professional or completed-operations response. We size the right cover so a callback doesn't become an uninsured cost.

Are my subcontractors covered under my policy?+

Only when the policy extends to them, which it often doesn't by default. We add subcontractor coverage where required and confirm your subs carry their own so a sub's mistake doesn't land solely on you.

Do design-build contractors need professional liability?+

Yes. If you provide design, you carry professional risk that general liability excludes. We add professional liability for design-build trades so a design error claim is covered, not denied.

How do Certificates of Insurance work across multiple jobs?+

For contractors on many sites we set up a blanket additional-insured endorsement so each new job gets a COI fast, or per-project Certificates where a contract demands named parties. Either way, the COI goes out same-day.

Does contractor insurance cover tools stolen from a job site?+

With a tools-and-equipment endorsement, yes, including on site and at a storage unit, not just in your truck. We build coverage that follows your tools wherever the job is.
